Our Mission
The Savannah Orchestra was founded in the spring of 2006 with a simple mission; to rebuild a resident, professional orchestra for Savannah by utilizing the artistic talents of two dozen professional musicians who reside in our city following the demise of the Savannah Symphony in 2003. In its debut season, the orchestra reconnected with thousands of music lovers who attended one or more of its thirty classical, popular and educational programs. The orchestra has helped also return significant cultural cornerstones to Savannah's annual arts calendar, including the Picnic In The Park Concert, the Messiah Sing-Along, and the popular Holiday Pops Concert. The Savannah Orchestra strives to uphold its core missions of providing world class classical and popular music throughout the year for Savannah, Ga and its surrounding communities and to utilize the artistic talents of its musicians to provide inspiring educational opportunities for area students.
The Savannah Orchestra is committed to being a fiscally responsible orchestra. It was structured from inception to offer world class artistic possibilities in a cost efficient manner. It is a professional, per-service orchestra with minimal physical plant costs. The size is flexible, allowing it to utilize only the performers needed for a specific program. Concerts are performed in rotation, utilizing regional churches and synagogues as inexpensive concert venues, efficiently presenting each program across multiple communities including the Historic District, The Landings, midtown Savannah and the suburb community of Richmond Hill, Ga. We are taking the concert to the audience.
